Thursday

Today I got to see more evidence of what a great guy Ralphie is.  The neighbors had some men doing work in their back yard today and while my two dogs were barking and barking Ralphie was quiet.  He was certainly curious but didn't bark.  The same thing when all the neighbors' dogs were out today.  Ralphie got to meet them all....the basset behind us...the pug and shih tzu next door and the JUMBO sized black lab also behind us.  At least one of my dogs barked when the neighbor dogs came to the fence but Ralphie approached, sniffed and was all tail wags.  Again, this shows he's a happy and friendly guy.
Then, tonight we took all three dogs for a walk.  My female will bark at dogs passing us on walks.  So, when a big mastiff mix approached I walked to the other side of the street with my two dogs.  My husband stayed with Ralphie and they passed the mastiff without a problem.  Not a peep from Ralphie boy.
He's been sleeping in the crate in our room at night.  He doesn't whine and does well all night long.  In fact last night around 9pm he went into the crate all by himself.  I guess he was trying to tell me he was tired...and it was time to get tucked in.
He's really scruffy looking right now and needs a trim.  I wanted to wait until I got him to the groomer before posting a lot of pictures of him but he's just so cute...even scruffy looking...I can't resist.
Here he is in the yard today and a video of him and his squirrel (or what ever you would call that thing).  My male dog takes the stuffing out of all the fluffy dog toys...so I guess it's a "deflated" rodent of some kind.
Just an off topic comment- our last foster dog, Nutter Butter, ended up having an inguinal hernia that needed emergency surgery on the day she was to be adopted.  The hernia had burst and cut off blood supply to part of her intestines and as a consequence part of her intestines died.  Her surgery went well and she made a full recovery.  Best yet, her new family, did not change their decision and continued to adopt her.  They did some research and realized this was not uncommon and dogs make good recoveries.  What a great story.  Her life was saved two times...once as a rescue dog and a second with the surgery!  (Click the arrow below to see the video)
