I must say that I am not his first foster home. He was a little too playful for his prior foster sister. She was a senior dog and wasn't wild about his puppyish energy. My senior dog, Holly, is also not thrilled with Simon but my 5 yr old dog and 3 yr old dog get along with him just great.
His prior foster also noticed some of his guarding issues. I have posted her original comments from his posting below. I too have noticed this habit but please keep reading and you'll see my comments.
Simon is a smart guy and fast learner. Because I have 4 dogs I feed Simon is his crate. Now, as soon as I say his name (meaning it's time to eat) he races to his crate and gets right in. It's fun to watch. He's also very good about going in the crate other times when I need him to. I say "go kennel" and throw in a small treat and he hops right in.
Here are the comments from his prior foster
The nipping and guarding problems mentioned previously have improved greatly. The only time heâs gotten super protective with one of his treasures was when he was eating a pigâs ear. He hid under the chair while he chomped away. Heck, I sometimes get that way with chocolate. Simon still likes to steal socks, mittens, etc. so you will want to puppy proof your house for a while. I know the website says he is three years old, but there is a lot of puppy energy in him.
As for house training, we have a pretty regular schedule and he has pretty predictable habits so itâs improving. Weâre still not sure he knows how to tell us he has to go outside. Simon is very content in his crate and never makes a sound. In fact, heâs a pretty quiet dog unless he sees a squirrel, hears the doorbell or is playing. Simon understands no, stay and sit and is pretty good about coming when called. He is also becoming much more cuddly than when he first arrived.
Thanks for reading and thanks for thinking rescue!
