Lucky Girl!

My little Besse may be going home soon!  Lucky girl and lucky new home!

I took Besse to the vet for a quick check up as part of her adoption.  She passed with flying colors of course.  The best part though was the fans she won over at the vet's office.  In the waiting room she captured the attention of another family who was there with their dachshund.  They thought Besse was so cute and well behaved.  They asked me for the name of the rescue and put it in their smart phone.  Who knows maybe they will be a home for a future Fluffy some day.  The vet, who is usually all business, also gushed over how cute Besse was.  The vet did comment that she was a young girl and agree with the rescue's estimate of 6-12 months.

Besse has been doing really in our home.  We will miss her.  It's always bitter sweet when our foster gets a home of her own.  I am so happy for them to finally move onto their new life but also a little sad having to say good-bye.

She loves playing with Miles and Missy.  She wakes up in the morning and she's ready for play time. She wrestles with Miles and likes to play chase with Missy.  They have so much fun together.  I walk her and Miles together each day and I go about a mile.  She likes to chew so plenty of toys and chew things (bully sticks are a favorite) keep her busy.

Since she's been here several weeks she knows our routine and she knows when the alarm usually goes off and will start to whine a little in her crate.  If I'm not ready to get up just yet I tell her "quiet" and she will sleep a little more.  Also, if I get up, let her out and go back to bed and cuddle with her she will sleep for some more time.

Last night I spoiled her.  She joined me in bed while I watched a little TV and I was so darn tired that I didn't have the energy to get up and put her in the crate.  So, I turned off the TV and the light and she slept cuddle up next to me all night.  She did well!  Not a peep until it was the usual time to get up.

She's been fine with the storms that have rolled through the area recently and also fine with the fireworks that we've heard going off in the neighborhood in the last few weeks.

She is shy when meeting new people.  She is a sweet but just shy at first.  But, if you crouch down she will approach.  At night, she will go into her crate all by herself but during the day I do need to pick her up and put her in there.  She's submissive and when you try to pick her up she will roll onto her back.  That's a good excuse then for me to pick her up and cuddle her like a baby :-).  My girls especially like to hold her that way.  It's cute.

Besse will look at me and go into our mud room when she needs to go outside.  She likes to go outside on the leash in the front yard and do her business there. The mud room is how we get outside.  Since she's been very good about letting me know I do indulge her.  I do let her out on a schedule...when we first get up....30-60 minutes after she eats....when ever she gets out of the crate...etc.  The only accident she's had recently was when she's been the basement with me.  I was working down there and I suppose she couldn't tell me she needed to go out because I was no where near the mud room.  She's never had a #2 accident in the house at all.  She's doing really well in my opinion.

She is quiet in the car.  I crated her when I took her to the vet and she rode quietly without a fuss.  She did fine of the way to the vet but on the way home I heard one little cough and when we got home I realized that she had thrown up.  It wasn't much because she hadn't eaten recently.  She was fine and her happy self when we got home.  So, she might get a little tummy upset sometimes in the car.

She enjoys our daily walks and still pulls a little but it's not bad when its just she and I.  She now thinks its fun to bark sometimes at the other dogs that pass us by.  I haven't begun working with her on this but it's not hard.  My own dogs used to do this and it's a matter of having them focus on you and rewarding them for watching you and not barking.  She is a smart girl and will get it.  She did fine at the vet with the other dogs there and did not bark or fuss at all.

Thanks for thinking rescue!
