So, here's what we know. He's a big boy. When I take him to the vet this week I'll get an exact weight but I'd guess he's at 65 pounds. He is thin and in my estimation, he could put on 10 pounds, maybe more. He's got a beautiful coat of hair. It's soft and shiny and has gorgeous feathering on his legs and tail. His body is long and lanky and his head is big and boxy with loose jowls. My daughter says his head looks like a St Bernard. He was a stray so we don't know his breed but we're guessing some lab, maybe some Newfoundland and then who knows. He's a handsome guy!
He's been here 24 hours and here's what I can tell you. He's done his potties outside. He seems unfazed by my three dogs. I've had them mostly separated by a gate but let him meet my little 20 pound Winnie face and face and they were fine together. He sniffed politely, let her sniff him and then they were off to do their own things. So far he's loved all the people he's met. He had no problems with my daughters or my husband. He slept in my daughter's room all night without a problem. He wanted to join her in bed but she had him sleep on the floor. I crated him last night when we went out for dinner and he was fine. He went in nicely with a treat and was fine when we returned.
My daughter threw a bone for him yesterday and he retrieved it for her. She got him to sit and shake. Not sure if he really knows those things or was just guessing at what she wanted. He does "hug" and will jump up to greet you so he'll need some training in manners.
We'll add more as we get to know him more. Here are some pics and videos are below to show his great coat of hair. Be sure to click on the links for the videos. Excuse my daughter who was still in her lifeguard bathing suit.
Thanks
