Lincoln has an all around great personality. He's great with all the people he has met and with all the dogs in our household which currently totals 5. He navigates around the quirks each one of them has and plays the playful ones and leaves the grumpy ones alone (yes I have a grumpy one).
Lincoln is playful and enjoys both running in the yard and rolling and wrestling with my female poodle mix Winnie. They make the cutest sound when they wrestle. You can hear their noise in one of the videos below.
He's a people lover and likes to cuddle. He's my sofa buddy and will curl up next to me when I actually get some time to watch TV. I've even been spoiling him and have been letting him sleep in the bed with us at night. He curls up between my husband and I at about shoulder level and doesn't move until it's time to get up in the morning. Prior to us letting him into the bed he slept in a crate in our room and did well there also.
He's a good eater and runs to his crate when it's time to eat. (I feed all the foster dogs in their crates). He has no food aggression takes treats nicely from me and shares toys and chews with the others without a problem.
Lincoln is a boy and in his first couple days here did some marking. He got that out of his system and there's been no issues since then. In fact, when he's in the yard he prefers to squat when he potties. He's housebroken and when I go out for short periods of time I will leave him free in the house. He does like to chew tissues and he can often find them on the floor in my daughter's room (teenagers). So, he if can find tissues he will shred them up. Other than that's he's been good in the house. If I'm gone for longer periods of time I do crate him and he goes in nicely with a treat. Sometimes he will whine when he first gets in the crate but must settle down at some point because he's quiet when I get home. He might be okay out of the crate on his own but for his own safety I crate him when I'm gone for long periods.
Lincoln is a shih tzu mix. The rescue believes he's part jack Russell also. You know what that means, he's got some smarts and some energy. So, Lincoln would love a permanent or occasional friend to play with and/or an owner who can spend play and walk time with him.
His coat is mostly white with a few splotches of tan. His hair is soft and he will need some occasional grooming even though he does shed. I gave him a bath last week, trimmed his nails and trimmed around his eyes and he was good for all of it.
Mr Lincoln came to Fluffy Dog Rescue heartworm positive. If you keep reading this blog you'll read about lots of other dogs who we have treated for heartworm. Who ever owned him was careless and didn't put him on a monthly preventative. We treated him here at the rescue and now he just needs to remain on a monthly preventative year round for at least 24 months. After 24 months you could go back to treating just in the warmer months if you'd like. The monthly preventatives are easy! They come in many forms and the one we use is Heartgard Plus which is a chewable that costs less than $10/month.
So, that's his story. Please see the pictures and videos below.
Thanks for thinking rescue.
