Bellie had a few accidents in the house his first few days here but has been doing all his potties outside for the last 3 days. I realized that he gets excited to come back in the house to see me when I let the dogs in the yard to potty and as a result he loses his opportunity. So, I started walking outside with the dogs and he's been doing his potties outside with everyone.
We had almost 10 people over for the holidays and he did well. He did bark at first but with some treats and patience he warmed up to everyone.
He's been taking daily walks with my pack and does well. We put him in a harness and he does well as we walk through our suburban neighborhood. He doesn't pull too much. He did bark at some construction workers and an occasional passerby but a 13 pound little guy it was easy to just keep him walking and he eventually stopped. He did well on our short walks (2 blocks) and our longer ones (2.5 miles).
Bellie is a smart guy who needs to learn his manners. I was able to teach him "sit" after just a couple minutes of training. He can get very excited when I'm petting him and will become "mouthy." When he does this I stop petting him and loosely hold his mouth closed. After a second or two he calms down and I resume petting him.
He has been sleeping in the crate in our bedroom at night and is quiet until it's time to get up in the morning. Last night I let him cuddle with me in bed while I was watching TV. I was too tired to put him in the crate at bedtime and let him stay in bed all night and he did well.
Bellie is a smart and handsome non-shedding boy. He will need help learning manners but is a smart boy and should pick up training quickly. He is a great walking partner and enjoys cuddle time.
Where did he get his name? I don't know. The rescue likes to use unique names for record keeping purposes. You can change his name or keep it. He will adjust either way. They all do.
Thanks for reading and thanks for thinking rescue.
