Day 3

If you've ever brought a new dog into your family you may have noticed that there is magic in three's...three days, three weeks and three months.  Scooby has been with us three days now and the dogs are starting to play.  They are playing chase and having a good time.  I can tell that Miles (my male dog) is much more relaxed.  I can see it in his body posture and how he is trying to engage Scooby in play.

Scooby continues to be fault free in the housebreaking department.  She is doing her business more regularly when I let them all out (rather than holding it unnecessarily) but no accidents at all.  I've noticed that she sits nicely when I put the leash on her for a walk and she is still very good on the walks.

She is still a little unsure of all the commotion that my daughters make and she steers clear of them when they're loud and moving around quickly.  But, when the girls are calm she's fine or when they call Scooby over she comes nicely.  I'm guessing after a few weeks with us Scooby will get used to the commotion.  I think the boots that Paige had on the first day (big black suede and white fleece) frightened Scooby a bit.  Now when Paige comes into the room Scooby steers clear and looks at Paige's feet.  Funny.

Scooby can do "sit."  The video below is of my youngest daughter with Scooby doing sit (The background music is courtesy of my older daughter who is practicing piano).  Scooby isn't 100% perfect at it but she seems to understand.  To me, it seems that Scooby was owned by someone who worked with her on housebreaking, some basic commands, walking nicely, etc.  Why would they get rid of her?  What happened that she ended up in a pound somewhere in Alabama?  She is curious in the kitchen and she will try to see what's on the counter...but she's not long enough to reach.  Gosh, that can't be a reason to get rid of a dog.  She is bubbly and has some enthusiasm for life...but settles down nicely.  Again, that can't be it.  She has taken my slipper over to the dog bed (but gave it up nicely when I realized it) and that can't be it.  She's a medium sized, medium energy dog with nice manners.  I can't imagine why someone would get rid of her.  I'm just glad that the stars were aligned for her and that Fluffy Dog Rescue found her.

Fluffy Dog Rescue has made a guess at her breed.  She would be a fun one to do a DNA test on.  Speaking of which, if you have a mixed breed and you're curious about breed, DNA kits are inexpensive and easy to do.  Fluffy Dog Wellness sells them on their site and you can pick one up for about $70.  Your vet probably has some for sale also.  I tested my two dogs and it confirmed what I thought their predominant breeds were.  But, it was still interesting to see all the little bits of "this and that" which the results said were in their genes.
