Simon is still doing all his business outside and ringing the bell when he wants to go out. So, it's been about a week and I'm going to consider him housebroken. He is a smart boy and once he gets an understanding of the rules he picks them up pretty quickly.
As I've noted in previous posts Simon has a little limp. Below, I've pasted what the rescue has said about this. He's been evaluated and no further treatment is necessary. I will tell you that it does not hinder him. He takes long walks with me everyday (1 mile) and he is faster than my sheltie-mix. He races in the backyard with my standard poodle. And, he hops up on the sofa (yes, I allow this) when he wants to snuggle. The only thing I've noticed is that sometimes after he naps it looks like his leg is a little stiff and he'll hold it out and won't use it for a few steps. But, in a matter of seconds he's as good as new and using it just like before.
The rescue has also suggested that he does best with small and medium sized dogs but I'll tell you that he does fine with my standard poodle, Missy. Simon is a happy and enthusiastic boy when he plays and so is Missy. But, they respect each other and when one has had enough they let the other know and all is good. I think he would do fine with the right large dog who doesn't get bothered by his puppy-like enthusiasm and who can play gently with him.
Speaking of his puppyish nature...look at that face. Yes, this guy is full grown but he will always have that cute puppy face. Such a doll. The rescue has estimated his age at about 3. I'm no expert but when I look in that mouth I see a nice bright pink tongue and gleaming white teeth so I would guess that 3 might be a bit of a stretch. He's full grown but somewhere between 1-3.
Here's what the rescue says about his leg...
Simon sometimes will not use his front leg. We had him xrayed and it looks like an old break. He has been evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon who does not recommend any further treatment for him.
As always...thanks for reading and thanks for thinking rescue!
