Charcoal just arrived last night. She's been here less than 24 hours but I will tell you what I can.
First off, she is a stunning mix of >##$# and #(*#$#. Why the characters? Because we just don't know exactly what she is. She's a Fluffy Dog for sure..but what breed of Fluffy is hard to tell. In my unofficial opinion I can tell you what I think. To me, her coat seems like a blue merle color. It's mostly grey but there is a lighter grey mixed here and there and then there is a little bit of brown in a few spots for fun. Her coat is Fluffy with a capital F. I'm not sure if she sheds, I haven't checked that yet. But, my guess would be that she does, at least some. One of her eyes has a little bit of a whitish/blue spot. This is a marble eye which is completely normal and can occur is dogs with a merle coat. Look up blue merle aussie with marble eye on the internet and you'll see what I'm talking about. So, what breed? Well, she's probably a mix of 20 breeds but my guess would be she's got some sort of collie type breed in there....maybe Aussie, maybe Collie, maybe Sheltie. But, then something else very fluffy because as you can see, she's got a very fluffy face and legs. Her legs are actually very cute. One is very black and it stands out from the others which are grey. What ever she is she sure is stunning and I can just about guarantee that you won't run into another one like her.
So, how is she doing? She's doing great. She met my other dogs and was humble and social. She is a happy and friendly girl and was very pleased to meet my two daughters (10 and 12) and even my husband. Last night was probably the first night in her life that she's been away from her siblings (Peanut and Griffin) and she did just fine. She slept in the crate in our room and whined a little at first but then settled in and slept quietly all night. As I ran some errands today she went in the crate with a treat. She fussed for a minute but then was quiet. She's had no messes in her crate and has been doing her business outside for the most part. She's had one accident which is pretty darn good in my book. She's a puppy and she's still settling into our routines so one accident in my book is very good.
She took two walks with me today and did very well. I think things are new to her because she stays pretty close. She does not pull. We passed other dogs, cars, bikers, etc and she seemed good with them all.
She is a young girl and is playful. I got out a lot of our toys and she entertained herself with many of them. She was fine with me taking toys out of her mouth and fine when I showed her that the basket of towels was not for chewing (she's just a pup after all). She took a nap under the kitchen table today while I worked this afternoon.
She seems like she's probably a smart girl. She managed the stairs after watching my dogs only one or two times. She is clumsy when she goes up and down but she can do it. Also, she was fine when my girls picked her up and carried her up and down a time or two.
As you probably know, you can change her name to anything you'd like. Charcoal though certainly describes her color.
Here are some pictures and videos from today. I will add more as we get to know her better. Click below for other postings as well.
Thanks!
