So, Charcoal has been with us a few days now and she continues to do great. She's a sweet girl with a happy disposition and a bubbly personality. She enjoys playing and is often walking around the house with a stuffed toy in her mouth. She loves following me around and enthusiastically trails me from upstairs to downstairs to outside, etc.
She had one other accident, so that's only two in the first several days, which is great in my book. The other day I saw her standing by the back door and she went out and did her thing right away. Today, she rang the bell on the back door. That's how my dogs let me know they have to go out. Smart girl!
I'm attaching a video below of her playing. Usually, I trim down the videos so you don't have to see my hand shaking and you don't have to see the dull parts. But, I think I'm going to leave this one as is. I think videos are a good way to get a glimpse of their personality and their temperament.
Today my daughter Leah and I took Charcoal to Bentley's Corner Barkery Block Party here in downtown Arlington Heights. It gave me an opportunity to see how she was in the car and to give her some socialization. She did really well.
She was great in the car. She started out on Leah's lap and then moved to the floor (I won't have to vacuum now). She was not nervous in the car. When we got there she met many other dogs and any people were interested in petting her. She was great with all of them. People wondered what she was...someone suggested schnauzer. Could be, but it wouldn't be my first guess. We don't know what she is but my guess is Aussie-poo. Look up Blue Merle Aussiepoo on the internet and you'll see pics of some dogs that she resembles. But again, it doesn't matter what she is because she sure is cute.
After the Block Party we stayed in the downtown area for a bit. She and I sat on one of the benches. As the dogs would come by on their way to the block party she would bark "woof woof" to let me know they were coming. But, she was fine when they met. Sometimes she didn't even get up to meet them and just sniffed them from her spot laying at my feet.
I've got a load of pictures for you below. She does need a haircut and I will see if I can trim up her face some this week. I did brush her the other day and she did fine. She does shed a little but I think she'll be one that you'll need to take to the groomer a couple times a year. Probably a lot like an Aussie-Poo would be.
Thanks for thinking rescue!

It was like a street festival for dogs. I put an "adopt me" bandana on her so folks would know she's looking for her forever home |
