Last week my clicker training instructor came to my house for our lesson. Instead of working with my dogs I asked if we could work with Charcoal and she agreed.
Charcoal did great. We worked on "watch me," "wait," "place" (aka mat) and "hand." In the video I posted last week you can see some of Charcoal's work with "hand." This involves having the dog target your hand with it's nose upon command. It's a good first step in getting the dog to orient to you. My instructor said Charcoal was a fast study and said she was a "perfect" rescue dog. Well, in my mind they're all perfect, but she's right Charcoal is pretty darn great.
Charcoal is very good about doing her potties outside. She had a few accidents the first few days she was back with us but has been 100% the last several days. I work from home so she gets out many times a day, as a puppy should, and I am conscious to get her out after eating. I wouldn't consider her housebroken yet but she is doing well. She will ring the bell on the back door to be let out. I don't know if she's fully connected the bell with doing her potties but she does know that the bell gets the door open which is a good first step.
She and Missy continue to play together. They like to race around in the yard and wrestle. They play for a few minutes and then collapse for some rest. They are fun to watch.
Thanks for reading and thanks for thinking rescue.
