Welcome Charcoal

Just a quick note to say that Charcoal is back!  Her adoptive family had her a short time (about 10 days) and decided she wasn't for them.  The family had a cat and Charcoal nipped at the cat once or twice and rather than work on the behavior they decided to bring her back to the rescue.  When I told my girls (10 and 12 yrs) they said "aww....she's a puppy and she just needs obedience."  I couldn't agree more with them.  So wise at such young ages!  We do believe Charcoal is a herding breed dog and they will do this sort of thing to get an animal to move.  Some herders herd by staring and others by "heel nipping."  I will tell you that I don't have a cat but I haven't seen any of this behavior from her...now or previously.  I do think getting enough exercise (she is a playful puppy who needs toys and exercise) and getting some obedience training will be good for her.

I am adding a picture and video below.  I am limited on time this afternoon so just a quick update so you know you're looking at the right blog.

Just as before, we are finding her to be a wonderful dog.  She is playful, loving and social.  I have not seen any herding behavior.  She is wonderful on a leash.  I took her running with Miles and me this morning and she did great.  I say "running" but it's probably more like "jogging" since I'm pretty slow.  But, she was wonderful.  She does get distracted by the occasional bunny running across our path but has been good about switching her focus to me when I tell her to "watch me."

She is loving and seeks hugs and kisses from our family.  She has been great with my other three dogs and sometimes they are not the easiest to get along with.  She is a young, beautiful and smart girl and just like all puppies will benefit from someone who can help her learn some rules.
