Welcome Alley

In addition to having Phoebe for the rest of the week we now have Alley!  Welcome Miss Alley from Alabama.  She is a sweet, sweet girl who follows me everywhere and loves to snuggle.  While Phoebe is keeping her busy playing I do think that Alley would be content to just hang out with me.

She is a long girl and is about 16 inches from her neck to the base of her tail.  Her ears are red and the rest of her body is a golden color.  And, she's short in comparison to her length, about 9 inches to the shoulder.  I do think she's part dachshund.

Before the bone chilling cold set in we were able to to go for a walk yesterday and the day before.  We went for 1 mile each time and Alley did really well.  She walked very nicely on the leash with a harness.  Her Alabama foster mom said she thought Alley needed help learning to walk on a  leash but she did very nicely for us.

She is doing very well with my three dogs and with Phoebe.  She and Phoebe have become fast friends.  My standard poodle, Missy, was a little put off by having another foster dog here and was a little snarly to Alley the first day and Alley was fine with all of it.  She was even fine when Miles (my other dog) barked at her to back away from his sleeping space (he's not fond of having other dogs near him when he's sleeping).

She has been wonderful with my daughters and husband.  She doesn't jump off her feet but will get on her hind legs to meet who ever is coming in the door.  She gives a nice greeting in my opinion.

She doesn't seem to know any commands like sit or wait.  So, when I gave all the dogs some treats I needed to make sure Alley waited for the others to get theirs.  Once she got hers though she took it from me nicely.

Yesterday and today she's been doing all her business outside.  She's managed to find the few spots in the yard where there is grass or dirt and has been good about going to those spots and doing her business.  Good girl!

Phoebe and Alley cuddled with me in bed last night while I watched a little TV.  My husband put them in their crates when he came to bed.  Alley did fuss a little a few times during the night (some low moans).  She's only been here two nights so I think that given more time to understand the routine that she won't be fussing at night.

Her Alabama foster mom said that Alley was a love and enjoyed snuggling.  I have found that to be true.  She also said that Alley is not fond of the crate.  When I picked her up to bring her to IL Alley did fuss in the crate for about the first 5 minutes but then stopped and settled in for the ride.  While she's not wild about the crate she does tolerate it after a few minutes of protest.

I work from home so she has been uncrated all day and has been content to sit next to my desk while I work.  When I've run my girls to school I have left her out of the crate and she's been fine (Phoebe too).

I've included two videos below make sure to click on them.  One is of Phoebe and Alley playing.  They play silently and very nicely.  Sometimes Phoebe is on the top, sometimes it's Alley.

She is a beautiful and sweet girl who would love a lap of her very own.

We will add more info as we get to know her better.  In the mean time here are some pictures and video.

Now, for some info on Phoebe.  Gosh, she is a wonderful girl too!  So sweet and bouncy.  Not, over the top bouncy but just a playful, young pup.  She too is very respectful of all the other dogs.  She doesn't know any commands either but takes a treat from me nicely.

It is so darn cold outside I put out a pee pad for her today and she used it.  Good girl!  I don't think she's fully housebroken as she's had a couple of accidents but they have been small and easy to clean. She's only 6 months old, she's only been here a few days and it's darn, darn cold outside so I haven't been too focused on working on the housebreaking yet.  Nevertheless, in my book she's doing really well so far.

She has red ears and a fluffy "collar"

Her body is long and her hair is golden

Such a sweet face
