Welcome Mercedes

Mercedes joined us just a few days ago and we're already impressed by this little girl.  You've probably read on her petfinder page that she was run over by a car, by her owner.  They brought her to the shelter and claimed she was a stray.  Well, it's unfortunate that the accident happened and unfortunate that her owner didn't take her for treatment but it is fortunate that Fluffy Dog Rescue heard of her plight and with the help of donors got her the treatment she needed.  Mercedes had FHO surgery to fix her hip.

Mercedes is doing great!  The FHO was on her right hip and she is using the leg when she walks slowly, when she has to scratch and for sitting.  When she moves fast she hops along on three legs.  As time progresses we'll work with her to rely on that right leg more and more but so far she's doing really well.  I'll mention that she gets along great on the other three legs.  Her and my dog Winnie were running in the yard today and both were a blur.  Clearly the leg doesn't slow her down at all.

The rescue has her listed as a Cairn Terrier mix.  I'd say there's some Shihtzu in there.  I saw that because of her underbite and her exceptionally fluffy legs and body.  She's very cute!  Her hair is mostly black but she has a patch of brown on her back right above the area of her surgery.

Mercy has met all the dogs in our home and all the family members and has done well with everyone.  They have been giving her play bows and she's played a little with them.

She eats well and sleeps well.  She goes in the crate easily.  She takes treats nicely but doesn't seem to know "sit."  But, hey that's okay, that's an easy one to train.

She's been doing all her potties outside and yesterday was pacing by the back door, I let her out and she pottied.  That's a good sign.  I'll give it a few more days before I declare her housebroken.

I've been walking slowly with a piece of cheese and getting her to follow me using all 4 legs.  She's been doing great.  We've been doing this a few minutes each day.  We might try some swimming after she recovers from her spay.

I work from home and she was content to sleep while I was working.  I let her and the others out several times during the day.

We've been very impressed by Ms Mercy so far.  We'll add more as time goes on.
