More on Miss Christie
Christie is a wonderful young girl. She is easy going and seems to prefer life in the slow lane. She enjoys playing in the snow and going for a walk around the block each day but I think her favorite thing is actually cuddling. She sleeps next to me during the day while I'm working and when I get to take a rest at the end of the day she's the first one to cozy up with me in the leather chair. She doesn't demand attention. She just wants to be near.
It's not often that Fluffy Dog Rescue knows much about the dogs they rescue, but for Christie we know that a family got her as a puppy but then grew tired of her. Small scruffy dogs don't have much hope for a second chance at Alabama shelters. That is why most of the dogs Fluffy Dog rescues are from Alabama. Small and medium fluffy sweeties are just what many of us like here in IL and WI. Christie made the trip up from AL last weekend with more than 10 other dogs hoping to find their forever family here.
Like all of the foster dogs we've had I can't help but wonder what would cause someone to give up such a sweet dog. She is happy, polite and doesn't bark much. In my opinion she's housebroken. In the 4 days we've had her she's had one accident in the house and I would really call it my fault. I didn't let her out after she ate breakfast because I thought she was finished with her business. But, about 30 mins later she had an accident. We haven't had an accident since...I know her schedule and she knows ours. (I work from home so I let everyone out several times during the day.) She's still a puppy at 9 months old but in my opinion she has a quietness and calmness about her like a mature dog. I'll keep scratching my head but be thankful that she's found her way to a rescue that will find her a forever home.
When I leave the house for a short time (less than 20 mins) I have been leaving her out of the crate and there have been no problems. For her safety, I have put her in the crate when I've gone out for longer periods. She whines when I put her in the crate but by the time I get back she's quiet. I will try to work with her on being more comfortable in the crate.
She is timid when she meets new people or is introduced to new things. But, she warms up quickly. She especially loves kids. There is something special about kids and puppies. They seem to delight in each other and I can see it in Christie and my girls. That said I think she'd do great with any family who is just willing to give her a forever home and to not "get tired" of her in a few months.
